Front cover of Hideki Spaghetti albumHideki Spaghetti, a collaboration with Hideki Kaji, was finally released in April 2008. The album was a real departure for me: a collection of twelve pop songs and instrumentals, as opposed to the 'magazine' approach associated with previous projects. Hideki wrote all of the songs, and provided vocals, guitars and glockenspiel. My role was to arrange, engineer and add the rest of the instruments and backing vocals, with Polly stepping in on additional voices and much-needed second opinions at the final production stage.

Hideki was comissioned to write and record the tunes - three Who-esque instrumentals and a slower piece, featuring organ and electric piano respectively . Hideki's UK live drummer - Andrew Sleath - also played, with Hideki on guitar and basses.

It's a new year and I've really decided to pull my finger out: more writing/recording, a bit less beer and a lot more exercise - we're now swimming three times a week, and the bikes came out today for the first time since September!

Kona Smoke and Raleigh Compact bikesAnyone wondering about Hideki Spaghetti will be pleased to hear that its release is imminent - hopefully within four weeks. I can't wait to see the finished thing; it's been such a long time coming, and was an utter joy to record: in addition to Hideki's personality and talent, Polly agreed to sing backing vocals, and Matt (guitarist on David Candy / Maria Napoleon / Lollipop Train) lent a much-needed third-party ear and mastered the final recording in Edinburgh.
